Kids Thrive teaches young children creative life skills to tackle issues arising from trauma, disadvantage and cultural conflict. Our programs ensure that vulnerable kids do not fall but rise through the gaps to take empathetic leadership in their communities.
You will be investing in the creative turn around of a young child’s life.
When a baby or child is traumatised he can find it hard to connect and stay connected to the very people who might make him safe – extended family, friends, school and community.
Trauma can be a result of neglect, lack of attachment or violence. A traumatised child is often on the watch for anything unexpected, ready with the survival responses of fight, flight or freeze. These trauma responses interrupt development, connection and learning for the child.
One of the most powerful ways to address trauma responses in a young child is through the arts – music, song, movement and storytelling. Rhymes and rhythms and repetitions can soothe the nerves and build reserves in a young child’s body and mind.
And this is what Kids Thrive does.
What do we do?
Kids Thrive develops and delivers arts-based programs for traumatised children aged 0 to 12 in their safe everyday spaces; healthcare centres, kindergartens, schools and libraries.
Our programs and workshops teach children creative life skills to tackle issues arising from trauma, disadvantage and conflict – giving them the best chance to imagine, practice and apply a different way of being.
Our programs draw on contemporary international research in brain development and trauma, early attachment and impacts of poverty.
Delivered Victoria-wide, our short, medium and long-term programs team leading artists with children’s specialists and educators to catch the kids who are falling through the gaps in their education, community connection and social and emotional development.
How will your donation be used?
- To provide materials for children in our programs – journals, SIM cards for their donated old mobiles to connect with their community partners, project tracking charts for children to monitor self-initiated learning workflow. The many tools that children in our arts-based action learning programs need to stay off-line and make real life, real time connections with their communities.
- To develop more innovative responses to emerging issues for young children in Victoria affected by poverty and violence.
- To research and evaluate our programs to ensure they are evidence based and grounded in current research.
- To equip vulnerable communities to use our proven strategies and methods with children so they may then tackle entrenched communal issues.
